A quick guide

A little logic goes a long way.

Find a five-letter word in six guesses. Every guess gives you another clue.

01 / START WITH A WORD

Follow your curiosity.

Type any accepted five-letter English word, then press Enter. Use your keyboard or tap the letters on screen.

02 / READ THE CLUES

Notice the little clues.

Blue ✓ means the right letter in the right place. Copper ↔ means the letter belongs elsewhere. Gray − means there is no remaining match.

03 / CONNECT THE DOTS

Make your next move.

Use those clues to refine your next guess. Find all five letters before your six guesses are up.

One guess, three kinds of evidence.

For this example only, imagine the answer is PLANT. You guess STARE.

STARE

A is exactly where it belongs. T belongs somewhere else. There is no match for S, R or E.

Yes, letters can repeat.

Each ✓ or ↔ uses one copy of a letter in the answer. Exact positions are matched first; remaining matches are assigned from left to right.

Answer: APPLE. Guess: ALLEY.

ALLEY

There is only one L in APPLE. The first L gets ↔; the second gets −. A − can mean “you used too many of this letter,” even when another copy has ✓ or ↔.

Make it your daily ritual. Or keep going.

Daily gives everyone the same word at 00:00 UTC. There is one official result per daily puzzle for this browser. Unlimited gives you a fresh practice game whenever you finish. Both use six guesses; their results are kept separately.

What happens when a word isn’t accepted?

You’ll see a message, your typed word stays put, and no guess is used. The same goes for a word that isn’t five letters long or one you already tried in this game.

Can I leave and come back?

Yes. Your accepted guesses are saved to this browser’s game record. Switching modes keeps both games. An active daily game can be finished for 24 hours after your first accepted guess; a practice game stays active for seven days. Unfinished games count as expired when their window closes.

Can I use a gray key?

Yes. This game doesn’t enforce a hard mode. Your keyboard shows the strongest feedback seen for each letter, and every key stays available while you play.

Why is my history different on another device?

Your record belongs to an anonymous browser cookie. There are no accounts or cross-device syncing. Clearing cookies starts a new record; saved games are kept for up to 180 days.

Can I see what each guess meant?

After a game ends, choose “View result & review.” Open each row to read a position-by-position explanation. Sharing sends your score and clue counts; the word stays a surprise.

Can I change the colors?

Open Settings for stronger outlines and darker feedback colors. Symbols are always visible. You can also reduce animation. Your system’s reduced-motion setting is respected automatically.
